I was looking through the dark rock opening toward the ocean with the light breaking across the cliffs in the distance. The contrast between the shadowed rocks in the foreground and the green and reddish cliffs catching the light is what caught my eye. Torbay Point sits along Newfoundland’s northeast Avalon coast, where the land drops away into the Atlantic in a series of steep cliffs and rocky coastline. It’s also part of the scenery around the East Coast Trail, one of the best-known coastal hiking areas on the island. I like this one because it doesn't give you the whole view right away. The dark cliffs pull you into the photograph and then open up to the water and coastline beyond. It has that rugged Newfoundland look without needing a lighthouse, fishing stage or iceberg to tell you where it was taken. This would work particularly well as a larger print in a living room, office, den or cottage. The darker tones would look great against a lighter wall, while the green and warm colours in the cliffs add just enough colour to keep it from feeling too dark. It would also make a great piece for someone who has walked the East Coast Trail or has a connection to Torbay and the northeast Avalon.
